Winds of Winter Release Date: Unpredictable?

Author George R.R. Martin has avoided making estimates for the Winds of Winter release date since he has angered some fans before regarding estimated book release dates. With the supposedly due date a month before Game of Thrones Season 6 airs, he angered fans more when he said the book will not be released anytime soon.

As Game of Thrones returns, new plot lines from the book make it an unpredictable season. However, Martin admits the TV series’ 6th season and The Winds of Winter would be different from each other. “Some of the ‘spoilers’ you may encounter in season six may not be spoilers at all… because the show and the books have diverged, and will continue to do so,” he adds.

With the Winds of Winter release date being far from today, fans are disappointed but they are still as excited as they were before in wanting to find out what the book can offer. In his blogpost, Martin said, “Believe me, it gave me no pleasure to type those words. You’re disappointed, and you’re not alone. My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed… but no one could be more disappointed than me.”

However, even with the time frame stretching until the Winds of Winter release date, Martin adds, “Winds of Winter should be pretty good too, when it comes out. As good as I can make it, anyway … Enjoy the show. Enjoy the books. Meanwhile, I’ll keep writing. Chapter at a time. Page at a time. Word at a time. That’s all I know how to do.”

In another blogpost, Martin also mentioned, “You should read the books… The show is good, but the books are better. (The books are always better.)” With this statement, the Winds of Winter release date becomes something to look forward to even more.
