Oral Medications for Erectile Dysfunction

The US Food and Drug Administration has only approved five oral drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. These are Staxyn, Cialis, Levitra, Viagra, and Stendra. All of these are intended to increase the blood flow into the penis, so the man can have an erection once he is sexually stirred.

Staxyn, Cialis, Levitra, Viagra, and Stendra have a similar mechanism that cause erections. They only have subtle differences in terms of how long the drugs take effect and how fast it works.

Levitra functions a bit longer than Viagra. Both of these drugs take effect in 30 minutes. Viagra lasts for about 4 hours while Levitra lasts for about 5 hours.

On the other hand, Cialis works faster, usually within 5 minutes. Its effects last longer, about 36 hours. Stendra can take effect in about 15 minutes and can last approximately 6 hours. Staxyn has the same active contents as Levitra.

There are cases that these oral medications are not safe to use, depending on your current health condition. You should consult your doctor in case you exhibit the following conditions:

1 If you have any allergies with drugs such as Viagra or any Erectile Dysfunction medication.
2 If you are scheduled for any surgery.
3 If you are taking any medications, including herbal and dietary supplements.
4 If you are taking alpha-blockers intended for prostate problems or blood pressure.
5 If you are taking nitroglycerin for chest pain treatment.

It is very important to follow the prescription label of any drug you are taking. These drugs should be taken exactly as directed. You should not take more or less than what it is prescribed to you by your doctor. Also, you should not take these drugs more than once a day.

Who are the persons that should not take these medications?

In case you have a history of heart attack, stroke or a life threatening irregular heart rate for the last 6 months, you should opt to consult your doctor and ask for other alternatives you can use to address the erectile dysfunction. You should also avoid these medications if you have high or low blood pressure and if you have experienced having chest pain with sex.

Staxyn, Cialis, Levitra, Viagra, and Stendra have been effective in most men suffering from erectile dysfunction. However, these drugs are not effective in patients who have prostatectomy unless the patient will use a nerve sparing approach.

To better address all your concerns regarding your erectile dysfunction problems, you should pay a visit to your doctor. He can provide you the best options based on your current medical condition. This is for you to avoid further problems that may arise from taking drugs. You can also ask your doctor if you should avoid certain medications while taking the drugs intended to address your erectile dysfunction.
