Keep your feet lower than the level of the heart.
Some of the things that others like to do is lie on their backs or sit on a chair then raise their feet. If you’re having hypertension or high blood pressure, raising your feet may just worsen it. By virtue of gravity, more blood flows into the heart and in turn, the heart pumps more of it. Remember that the more blood a blood vessel contains, the higher the pressure it will be.
Avoid doing a Valsalva Maneuver.
A valsalva maneuver happens when you hold your breath and strain against a closed glottis. For example, when you move up in bed, you tend to hold your breath. This also happens when you try to pass a stool especially when you’re constipated. One little hack you can do if you can’t seem to avoid doing valsalva is to open your mouth and exhale. But how does valsalva maneuver relates to high blood pressure? When you hold your breath or strain, pressure is built up on large veins that interferes with the blood flow. As a result, high blood pressure happens. Opening your mouth and exhaling then relieves this pressure.
Prevention is better than cure.
This is a classic one. To prevent having high blood pressure, target where it comes from. If you eat foods high in fat, then you might as well try to minimize doing so. If you experience stress a lot and find yourself having nape pains or dizziness, then relaxation techniques may just do the trick.
