Though there hasn’t been much news about Guardians of the Galaxy 2, there have been quite an amount of rumors and speculations going around. This would include the recent addition to the cast, Pom Klementieff.
Klementieff, known for her role in Oldboy as Haeng-Bok, is rumored to be playing a new yet important character in the upcoming sequel. According to an article by Hollywood Reporter, production had been looking for an Asian actress to play a specific but key role in the upcoming film. Though there are a lot of possibilities on who she will be portraying, many speculate that it will be Mantis, a martial artist with telepathic powers.
According to a question and answer segment on Facebook, director James Gunn teases that the new addition is the “most awesome and easiest person” he has ever cast and had blown him away during her audition.
However, this leaves us asking for one thing: will Thanos be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2? The would-be main antagonist for Avengers: Infinity War has made an appearance in the previous Guardians of the Galaxy movie and a brief cameo in the mid-credits scenes in The Avengers directed by Joss Whedon. Unfortunately, Gunn reports in the said Q&A that he won’t be making an appearance in the upcoming film. But there is a reason why Thanos isn’t appearing and that is his major role baddies for every Marvel character.
Recurring cast members for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 are Christ Pratt who plays Peter Quill or Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as the feisty Gamorra, Bradley Cooper as the voice for the temperamental Rocket Raccoon, Dave Bautista as the misunderstood Drax, and Vin Diesel as the voice of fan-favorite, Groot. The first film was considered as a “sleeper hit” gaining wide critical acclaim, a dedicated fan base and grossed up to $774 million worldwide.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 opens on May 5, 2017.
