Mistake #1: Drinking more than six 8-ounce cups per day
Research says that the recommended daily intake for caffeine is only 400mg, which is about five to six 8-ounce cups of coffee. Drinking more than that may just increase blood pressure, worsen anxiety and even aggravate gastrointestinal problems.
Mistake #2: Making coffee as your dessert
Consuming frapuccinos is just one good example of making coffee as a dessert and it’s one of the common mistakes when drinking coffee that we often cannot resist to do so. It’s true that coffee has antioxidant properties. But when you add loads and loads of sugar like what they do in making frapuccinos, chances are, the amount of sugar outweighs the antioxidants in the coffee. T
Mistake #3: Allowing coffee to sit for hours
Researchers suggest that we drink coffee within 20 minutes of brewing. If we let it sit for too long, its acidity increases and we don’t want that. Increased acidity means increased risk of heartburn, indigestion or even tooth enamel erosion. In addition, its antioxidant benefits may decrease as air exposure increases as well.
Mistake #4: Drinking your first coffee too early
Some of us like to drink our coffee upon waking up in the morning. But did you know that during the first couple of hours after we wake up, the level of our body’s stress hormone called cortisol is still high. This means that we have our natural energizer working. If we drink our coffee during those times, we may not fully getting that benefit from the cortisol. Research then recommends to drink it between 10am to 12pm.
